Raising money for Cancer Research UK
Referee from across East Riding to stage Charity Football game
Referees from across East Riding are coming together to play an 11-a-side football on Sunday 24 March at the East Riding FA Roy West Centre.
The game is being staged to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK which is the East Riding FA’s chosen Charity for the 2023 / 24 season and this game is the latest event we are hosting in support of the charity.
As well as raising funds the game is also being staged in memory of local referee Simon Leaning who sadly passed away in January 2022 after being diagnosed with cancer.
The game will see over 40 referees from across East Riding split into two teams with the sides being managed by current East Riding FA Referee Development Officer Mark Brown and former East Riding FA Referee Development Officer Steve Lazenby.
All participants have donated at least £10 to play in the fixture.
Spectators are being encouraged to attend the game which kicks off at 2pm and entry is free although donations to Cancer Research UK are being encouraged.
East Riding FA CEO Adam Lowthorpe said, “We are delighted to be supporting Cancer Research UK during the 2023 / 24 season and this game between East Riding registered referees will raise money and important awareness. The game is also taking on extra significance as we are paying tribute to well respected local referee Simon Leaning who sadly passed away as result of cancer."
