Over the weekend we learned of the sad passing of grassroots football volunteer Matthew Simpson.

Matt was well known throughout grassroots football in our county and played a crucial role in providing opportunities for young people to play football for a great number of years.

A champion of participation Matt served South Cave United for many years as a club official with him most recently acting as Club Chairman. He was highly regarded for the time, effort, and dedication he offered the club and will be sorely missed by the clubs players and officials. He also spent an incredible amount of time volunteering with South Cave Juniors and was renowned for his positivity and for creating a legacy that will continue to live on.

His affection for the game in the South Cave area knew no bounds with him also registered to play for South Cave Sporting Clubs Veterans side for the 2023 / 24 season.

Matt was also a respected teacher in our area with him working at South Hunsley School and Sixth Form whilst also serving as Secretary of East Riding Schools FA. A role which he took tremendous pleasure from and one that left him well respected by the hundreds of players he gave playing opportunities to.
