Royal British Legion Cup
The Royal British Legion Cup
We are proud to announce that we will be be taking on the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Football Team in the annual Royal British Legion Cup.
The game will take place on Tuesday 22nd October at Bridlington Towns Mounting Systems Stadium and will kick off at 7:30pm.
The county will be represented by last season’s President Cup and MKM Hull Sunday Men’s League Winners West Hull Gunners with the fixture forming an important part of the Fleet Air Arm’s side preparations for the annual Malayia Cup.
The Fleet Air Arm (FAA) operates all the Royal Navy's aircraft. A vital element for many of the wide and varied roles undertaken by the Royal Navy, FAA roles range from humanitarian operations, through to securing the seas, fighting terrorism and landing troops onto hostile shores.
Service personnel selected for this fixture will come from military units such as Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton, RNAS Culdrose, HMS Queen Elizabeth, HMS Prince of Wales, HMS Sultan and RAF Marham.
Each year the FAA FA compete in the Royal Navy’s Inter-Region tournament comprising of six Inter-Regional teams and annually they are invited to Guernsey to compete against the Guernsey FA Representative team for the Malaya Cup (historically the old Malaysian FA Cup) for which they are the champions.
Last year the FAA FA made their debut in the national Emergency Service Football League (ESFL) competition with the team going unbeaten before sadly having to withdraw from the competition due to player availability as a result of military deployments and taskings.
The players and staff will be based at Leconfield Barracks in preparation for the fixture.
East Riding FA Competitions Committee Chairperson Doug Waterson said; “We are extremely privileged to be able to welcome the players and staff of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Football Team and I’m sure the fixture against West Hull Gunners will prove to be a great test for them.”
Entry to the fixture is free although we are asking for donations to our chosen charity The Royal British Legion.
