Alf Warvill RIP

Alf Warvill

Mr Alf Warvill - Rest in Peace

Alf was a stalwart of local grassroots football with his involvement in the game stretching over 60 years with first involvement coming as player in the local Church League before going on to play in the Hull Amateur League and Hull Sunday Men's Football League.

Renowned for his dedication, commitment and love for the game Alf went on to manages sides in the Hull and District Youth Football League, Humber Premier League as well as the Hull Amateur League and Hull Sunday Men's Football League with him also coaching youth teams at Hull City AFC.

As well as volunteering in the affiliated game Alf was also a keen advocate for schools football and he indeed coached a number of school teams with many of the players going on to play for Malet Youth Club. A club which was formed by Alf in 1978 with a view to giving men from his local community the opportunity to play 11-a-side football.

Remembered for his can do attitude Alf was keen to provide football for all and he was instrumental in setting up the clubs first girls team with that legacy living on with his sons Andy and Ian now heading up a club which boasts 12 female teams and a full female pathway.

Nothing was ever to much trouble for Alf with him going on volunteer as a Committee Member and Fixtures Secretary with the Humber Premier League. A competition that he had a great affinity with. As a consequence the leagues officials are requesting all current member teams observe a minutes reflection prior to their game on Saturday 22nd March.

Even at the age of 75 Alf would be regularly found helping set up pitch ready for match day and will be sorely missed by all who knew him

Everyone at the East Riding County Football Association sends their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and former colleagues of Alf Warvill.
