New Women and Girls Community Champion Appointed
New FA Women and Girls Community Champion appointed
We are delighted to welcome Liz Christian to our County as Women and Girls Community Champion.
Tasked with increasing the amount of females who are coaching grassroots football in East Riding Liz will be working with clubs who share the same ambition with this being a key component of the FA's 2024 - 28 Strategy for Women and Girls football.
Support will be offered through the delivery of ‘Stepping Over the Sidelines’ workshops which aim to encourage females to not only watch the game but to also become part of it with Liz also providing 1-2-1 mentoring support.
East Riding FA Participation Officer (Inclusion) Rebecca Bolton said, “Although female participation is at an all-time high in East Riding with participation numbers continuing to grow we recognise there is more to be done to increase the amount of female coaches who are involved in the game. Liz will play a vital role in creating a more diverse volunteer workforce with help and support on offer to females who are taking their first step into coaching."
As a keen sportsperson Liz has always enjoyed playing football with this stretcheing back to when she was at University. Since then she has both played and coached at Howden AFC and understands the challenges that some females face when making the decision to take on the responsibility of a team.
Liz said, "I’m looking forward to getting to know the football clubs in East Riding to help grow the women’s and girls game. The 'Stepping over the Sidelines' workshops are a great introduction if you’ve ever thought about getting more involved."
