EAST RIDING FA CLUB OF THE MONTH – JANUARY 2025

The East Riding FA Club of the Month award recognizes the clubs in our county who are going above and beyond to create a fun, safe and inclusive environment for people to play and enjoy football.

The winner of this month’s award is Cottingham Rangers Walking Football Club.

Cottingham Rangers Walking Football Club are celebrating their 10 year anniversary and have provided opportunities for hundreds of people from East Riding to play walking football.

What originally started out as an East Riding of Yorkshire Council project before transitioning into a FA Just Play session has grown into one of the region’s biggest and most established clubs.

The club is based at the University of Hull and currently provide two recreational turn up and play walking football sessions with over 60 players attending the weekly sessions.

They also play fixtures against other East Riding based walking football teams and regularly travel out of the county to play in tournaments and festivals.

Key to the success of the club is that it has an open door policy and welcomes players of all ages and abilities with the some of the clubs players going on to play representative football.

Whilst the football is important it’s the social scene that keeps people returning with the laughs and friendships that have been created the main motivation for people to keep attending.

The club is supported by a robust group of volunteers who have taken on many responsibilities to help ensure that people can keep playing in an organised and structured setting. These people are invaluable to the club and spend countless hours volunteering for the benefit of others.

Participation and Communications Officer Chris Johnson said “Since the club was formed the emphasis has always been about providing football in a safe and inclusive environment. The friendships that been established will last a lifetime as will the memories that have been created and the volunteers and players at the club should take great pride in what they have achieved.”

Cottingham Rangers Walking Football Club will now receive an automatic nomination for the Club of the Year award at the 2025 East Riding FA Grassroots Football Awards.
