EAST RIDING FA CLUB OF THE MONTH – FEBRUARY 2025

The East Riding FA Club of the Month award recognizes the clubs in our county who are going above and beyond to create a fun, safe and inclusive environment for people to play and enjoy football.

The winner of this month’s award is Costello FC.

Formed back in 2000 Costello FC are a 2-Star England Football Accredited club that is based in West Hull.

They currently provide football for nearly 200 players which includes a full male pathway with the club supported by a dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly for the benefit of others.

Costello FC sits firmly at the heart of the community and the volunteers who support the club take great pride in providing opportunities for people from the local area to participate in football and physical activity.

This is evidenced by the clubs involvement in the Football Associations Greater Game programme which aims to use the power of football to improve the health and wellbeing of young people across the nation.

The Greater Game is aimed at 12-16 years and focuses on four key elements which are Move Well, Think Well, Eat Well and Sleep Well with this new initiative supported by Nuffield Health and M&S Food.

As one of only a handful of pilot clubs Costello FC have embraced their participation in the programme with players at the club being encouraged to make at least one healthier action per week.

To help encourage healthier eating the club have also been handing our fruit baskets to all their teams on match days with opposition sides also catered for.

The club’s partnership work isn’t limited to the Greater Game though with them helping raise vital funds for local good causes by working with the Clothes Collection Hub who raise money by recycling unwanted textiles.

Costello FC have also developed a robust working relationship with Wold Academy who house many of the club’s sides.

Participation and Communications Officer Chris Johnson said “Since the club was formed the emphasis has always been about providing football for the community in which they reside. The volunteers at the club care passionately about its members and they want to help them both on and off the football field.”

Costello FC will now receive an automatic nomination for the Club of the Year award at the 2025 East Riding FA Grassroots Football Awards.
