Money raised to support Cancer Research UK

East Riding FA join the fight to beat cancer

With the 2023-24 season now over we are delighted to announce that over £8000 has been raised to support Cancer Research UK (CRUK).

CRUK is the world’s leading cancer charity and is dedicated to saving lives through influence and information and they support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Our partnership with CRUK was announced at the annual East Riding FA Grassroots Football Awards with us pledging to raise money and raise vital awareness of the risks posed by Cancer by supporting a number of their campaigns.

Since we made that pledge match officials, clubs and leagues from across the county have joined us in our fundraising efforts with the amount donated exceeding our expectations.

Cancer Research UK Relationship Manager Andrea Day said, "We are thrilled to be working with The East Riding County Football Organisation. So far there has been some wonderful support from various teams and staff raising over £8,000 to date. It’s been great to see how much support there is out there for our work. Cancer Research UK relies totally on our amazing supporters, its because of partnerships like these that we are able to do what we do. Our work has doubled cancer survival rates but there’s so much more we need to do to get to the day where cancer stops devastating families."

Some of the fundraising efforts from staff have included Designated Safeguarding Officer Steve Lazenby completing the Way of the Roses Cycle challenge, Board Member Kerry Johnson taking on the CRUK Pretty Muddy 5K and Referee Development Officer Mark Brown organising a charity 11-a-side game for match officials.

We have also enjoyed tremendous support from our grassroots football community with Lindsey Romeniuk, Pinfleet Wolfreton, Hull & District Veterans League, East Riding Women's League, East Riding Girls League, Hull & District Youth League and many others making very generous donations.

Adam Lowthorpe, East Riding FA CEO said; “We were delighted to have supported the vital work that Cancer Research UK undertakes. Through our network of clubs, leagues and volunteers we have raised awareness of the issues affecting people with cancer whilst also donating a significant amount of money which will contribute to the vital work Cancer Research UK conduct.”

To further support the fight against cancer we have decided to continue our partnership with CRUK which will now extend into season 2024-25 with our first fundraising event taking place on Tuesday 13th August when we host a cake and tea drop in session at the Roy West Centre.

We are inviting you to 'drop in' for tea and cake between 9:30am - 6pm with staff on hand to deal with any of your grassroots football questions, queries or problems.
