EAST RIDING FA CLUB OF THE MONTH – AUGUST 2024
The East Riding FA Club of the Month award recognizes the clubs in our county who are going above and beyond to create a fun, safe and inclusive environment for people to play and enjoy football.
The winner of this month’s award is Thorpe Park Rangers.
Based on Orchard Park in Hull the club are 1-Star England Football Accredited and have been providing opportunities for people to play football in one of the countries most deprived areas for nearly 20 years.
The club is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly to provide the best possible playing experience for the community they serve, and they adhere to and support several FA initiatives.
Recently they added a youth team to their adult set up which already included a Right Car East Riding County League side and a Hull Sunday Men’s Football League team.
What makes this club unique Is their ability to consistently field sides and provide opportunities for people to play and volunteer in grassroots football despite the socio-economic challenges that many members of their community face.
Despite these challenges the club volunteers which are led by Chairperson Allan Cope are determined to create a club and an asset that the area can be proud of. They work in partnership with Humberside Police and Tigers Trust and have collaborated with Hull City Council on a number of initiatives.
In attempt to make the club sustainable and to help create even more playing and volunteering opportunities the club are close to securing the leasehold of their Sir Henry Cooper Park playing facility.
The club’s volunteers already spent countless hours bringing the site which boasts two 11v11 pitches, one 9v9 pitch and a training area into good working order and plans are afoot to bring further investment to the club so that the community can continue to benefit from this fantastic resource.
East Riding FA Clubs and Participation Officer Chris Johnson said, “Managing three teams is hard work in itself but the club’s members have gone the extra mile to create a facility that the area can be proud of. They have worked collaboratively with other organisations and are keen to support other grassroots football clubs in the county by allowing them to access their site.”
Thorpe Park Rangers will now receive an automatic nomination for the Club of the Year award at the 2025 East Riding FA Grassroots Football Awards.
